Teacher Makes Classmates Beat Muslim Student, Condemned by NCPCR

A teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district has been accused of making his classmates hit a Muslim student one by one, criticizing ‘Muslim children’.

The incident took place on Thursday at a private school in the Khubbapur village. The teacher, identified as Tripta Tyagi, allegedly called the student to the front of the class and asked his classmates to hit him. She also allegedly made casteist remarks against the student.

The student’s father, who filed a complaint with the police, said that his son was being targeted by the teacher for being a Muslim. He said that the teacher had been harassing his son for some time and had even threatened to kill him.

The police have registered a case against the teacher under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 3(1)(r) of the SC/ST Act.

The teacher has been arrested and is being held in police custody.

The incident has sparked outrage in Muzaffarnagar and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and has sought a report from the state government.

In a statement, the NCPCR said that it is “deeply concerned” about the incident and that it will take “appropriate action” against the guilty.

The incident is a reminder of the growing intolerance and discrimination against Muslims in India. It is also a reflection of the deep-seated prejudice that exists in society against the minority community.

The authorities must take strong action against the teacher and ensure that such incidents do not recur. They must also work to create a more inclusive and tolerant society where everyone is treated with respect, regardless of their religion or caste.

The NCPCR’s intervention is a welcome step. It shows that the Commission is taking the issue of discrimination against children seriously. The Commission should ensure that the teacher is brought to justice and that the student and his family receive the necessary support.

The incident is also a reminder of the importance of education. Schools should be places where children learn to respect each other, regardless of their religion or caste. They should also be places where children are taught about the dangers of discrimination and intolerance.

The authorities must take steps to ensure that schools are safe spaces for all children. They must also work to create a more inclusive and tolerant society where everyone is treated with respect.
