India to make another attempt to land on the Moon

Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission, is scheduled to attempt a soft landing on the Moon’s south pole on August 23, 2023. The lander, Vikram, will be accompanied by the rover, Pragyan.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a follow-on to the Chandrayaan-2 mission, which was launched in 2019. Chandrayaan-2 successfully entered lunar orbit, but its lander, Vikram, lost contact with ground control during its descent to the surface.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission will attempt to land Vikram in the Moon’s south pole region, which is thought to be rich in water ice. The rover, Pragyan, will then explore the lunar surface in the vicinity of the lander.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a major undertaking for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The mission will require a high degree of precision and accuracy in order to successfully land the lander and rover on the Moon.

The ISRO is confident that the Chandrayaan-3 mission will be a success. The agency has been conducting extensive tests of the lander and rover in the lead-up to the mission.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a significant milestone for India’s space program. The mission will demonstrate India’s ability to land a lander and rover on the Moon, and it will also help to advance our understanding of the Moon.
