The activities regarding the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified. This is the first assembly election in this union territory after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The last assembly election was held here in 2014. A lot has changed in the last 10 years since then.
Especially after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35a, the atmosphere has changed a lot. The BJP has geared up for the upcoming elections in the state and from next week, it is going to start a power packed election campaign under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP National President JP Nadda.
This veteran BJP leader will be seen addressing public meetings in various areas of Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days. Jammu and Kashmir is no longer a state but a union territory. Although this status is permanent, there is no possibility of making it a state again in the coming times. In the same month of August 2019, the central government passed a bill to repeal Article 370 on August 5-6 and it was divided into two parts and made a union territory and now assembly elections are going to be held in this union territory.
All the political parties are preparing their own strategies for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. While the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to contest the elections alone in Jammu, it can support allies and independent candidates in the Kashmir valley. Under its plan, the BJP will keep a special focus on 36 seats in the upcoming assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir. It has been told that these 36 seats are from the Jammu region.
For these seats, the BJP has also given a message to the workers that they should fully immerse themselves in the elections. The BJP’s plan in Jammu is that the government can be formed easily by winning 36 Hindu-dominated seats. In fact, during the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had got a lead in 36 seats of the state and this is the reason that the party’s high command does not want to lose this lead in any case in the upcoming assembly elections, although the BJP is busy preparing for other seats of the state as well.
